So while mixing on of my songs, I heard my intro melody getting this ugly distortion while playing alongside everything else (I also had a mastering chain on the mix). I found out it was my bassline that when played alongside the melody, gave the melody the ugly distortion. My melody's fundamental frequency was around 500hz and was hi-passed to about 350-400hz with an eq. What's strange to me is that I eliminated this distortion on the melody by attenuating the bassline not at ~500hz like you'd think, but around 60hz. How was there a frequency confliction between my melody (low cut at 350hz) and the bassline at 60hz when the melodies frequencies didn't exist that low?
