I'm currently in my trial period for Mixcraft and already have had fun creating multiple song ideas. I already have reaper and love it for mixing and used to do all my work in there but I needed a saw that allowed me to record live loops in a grid similar to ableton. Enter Mixcraft.
So far I like how instant Mixcraft is. I get a melody idea set the number of bars record. Go text next idea. Then I do the performance recording to get the arrangement that suits me. Some f the instruments in Mixcraft are usuable but only a couple and the EQ and built in compressors are kind of meh. The mixing organization quite frankly sucks. For something with Mix in the name the track nesting sucks. It's all or nothing and you can't create groups like you can in reaper. Also the routing doesn't appear to be that powerful either.
Now I'm looking at Sonar Pro. It's about the same price, 199 instead of 189 for MC Pro Studio and I love the interface. I'm wondering how the features stack up and how good it's matrix recording is and what the mixing experience is like. Also both DAWs come with their own set of loops and Mixcraft seems to have a decent library set up.
If anyone can provide details and comparison of loop, grid type recording, mixing comparison, plugins, loops and library I'd be extremely grateful.
If it helps I'm mostly in the box for Electronic or symphonic stuff with some outboard gear.
Thank you to anyone with insight.
