I'm moving to another country for a few months where I will not be able to take my studio monitors. I've been scouring through threads and articles for a fantastic pair of high-fidelity headphones to get, but everyone seems to want to default to recommending their Audio-Technica ATH-M50xs above even the likes of Audeze.
I'm looking to make an investment in headphones which I can mix and master on for extended periods of time that satisfy the following criteria:
-over ear
-flat response
-open back
-very good bass/sub-bass response (I produce a lot of experimental trap)
-essentially no distortion
-fantastic stereo image/soundstage
-high translatability to other systems
-price point between $450-900
For comparison, I currently own Sennheiser 380 Pros which do not have a flat enough response or a decent enough low-end for me. They also give me pretty awful ear fatigue after a couple hours of use.
I've been leaning towards Audeze LCD-2's but they seem to be quite fragile and have a consistent issue with the left side going out. I would still consider these, however I would like to look more into headphones that rival these or even the LCD-X that fall within my price range.
Moreover, I looked into Grado but unless you want to shell out $1,700 for their professional unit, the rest seem to be geared towards audiophiles seeking to listen to music with hyped up frequencies. Thus they would not be ideal for mixing and mastering.
