Hey everyone,
I'm still somewhat new to beat production (my background up until now has been as a live drummer), and so far I've mainly stuck to doing four on the floor style house tracks. I usually draw most everything out using drum rack, and occasionally lay down live tracks using an e-kit.
That said - I'm interested in exploring a slightly more "jungle" style of beat production, and I especially like the stuff this "Skee Mask" artist does with the genre:

Now - this is clearly a bit more involved than just chopping up and randomizing an amen break, but I am curious how a beat like this is typically done. Do people usually stick to just samples for this sort of style, or is it mix of cutting up samples and drawing out drum hits on top of that? Any suggestions on where to look for these sorts of breaks?
