I use FL 12 and its EQ, I made a track recently with mainly a super saw, arp, bass and drums. I high passed the arp, I cut out stuff above 100 hz from the super saw and tried to tame the treble. I lowpassed the bass but the kick seemed to like all frequenices.
Leveled everything so it wasn't distorting, threw maximus on it for quick mastering... and it sounds like shit.
I don't need to post the track cause I'm not implicitly looking for feedback; how do "the pros" get everything to sound so gritty, mean and especially PUNCHY while not (or barely) distorting and pretty much never sounding muddy?
I have ALL SORTS of ideas for songs and every time I "put pen to paper" my mixing abilities hold me back so hard because anything I do sounds like garbage. I have to keep songs to 2 or 3 really weak or pre mixed (samples) layers for it to sound half decent.
Also admittedly I was using a drum loop for the drums; I didn't know how to eq it since it occupies the whole range but I should be able to use it anyway! it sounds really good too
This isn't even to mention that after I put a track on sound cloud it sounds like the white noise I'd use is like 56kbps even though I'm exporting to wav. I know SoundCloud kills quality but it is bad
