This is going to sound like an infomercial, I apologize. I have no personal affiliation with the creator. However, I just realized that since i downloaded this vst i use it on nearly every sampled break that goes in a tune, and lots of sequenced drums as well. Its a transient shaper and exciter, and it does exactly what you want it to do on dusty old drum loops especially. Basically just wanted to give a shout, it's free, and super intuitive. Chained with an eq and a saturation plug, it's very easy to get a really solid, punchy sound from thin, noisy source material. If you chop up breaks, you should play with it.
