Sorry, this doesnt relate to producing but it relates to EDM:
I have listened to EDM for a really long time. It started with dubstep and evolved into different genres. The thing that enamors me is the sweet, melodic kind of stuff.
However, I went to the beach during spring break and there were around 50 speakers playing EDM--but it wasn't the kind I had appeal for. No "real" melody. They seemed entertained by a set of hard hitting drums and synth that goes like DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH DUH. (Good onomatopoeia lol) And then they would put there hands in the air and you know the drill. Isn't NCS super popular? Monstercat? I have never heard these coming out of a college-persons speaker. Maybe its all spinnin records? But even spinnin records I thought had melody.
As a another bunny trail question, are there many festivals with genres such as "melodic house". dunno.
Also p.s. if I offended anyone I just wanted to spark a conversation and see how other people see this.. thanks :)
