Hey guys,
Sample organization has been talked about a decent bit here, but I want to hear thoughts on the WAY in which you review and organize samples.
I bring this up because I used to be a Mac user, and OSX has the brilliant "preview" feature in Finder. Highlight a sample in Finder, hit space, it autoplays the file in a little window. You can then scan through the entire folder just by hitting the right arrow. Easy to scan for nice samples, pull them into a nicely organized folder hierarchy, and thus create your sample library.
Enter Windows 10. I'm producing entirely on a Windows desktop now, and there isn't a smooth way to do this like there is in OSX. The best I've come up with is dragging everything into a VLC playlist and playing through, but even then VLC has some wonky name-sorting behavior and will automatically hop to the next sample without giving me time to think.
How do you all review and sort samples? Is there any software that can help with this usually long and arduous process? I really want to drill down and condense my library to only my favorite samples, but it takes so damn long to sort through files this way that I always get discouraged early on in the process.
