I've just thrashed my good old Hackintosh and built a new Ryzen setup. Gaming performance is brilliant, though the DSP takes me for a ride all over the place with just a couple of Serum instances and Neutron/Ozone and Bitwigs internal plugins. The CPU however, doesn't go above 10-20% when the DSP and crackling happens. I had much better performance and less stability issues on El Capitan with the Hackintosh.
There's little chance there's hardware problems due to my new setup, and most likely software or some Windows 10 compatibility issues.
My new setup is consisting of:
- OS: Windows 10
- DAW: Bitwig (also tested and can confirm unstable DSP with Ableton...)
- AI: UR22 and an Allen & Heath ZED-10FX (same performance with both)
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700
- RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 16 GB 3200 MHz (cl15)
- Mb: ASUS PRIME B350-PLUS
- SSD: Some random Samsung with 256 GB *PSU: A Corsair CX750M (I believe)
- PCI-E Network: ASUS PCE-AC68 (I had issues before installing this)
- GPU: Gainward GeForce GTX 1080 Phoenix GLH
