I know a lot of big names started out in rock, punk, and metal. I listen almost exclusively to technical, progressive, and melodic metal, and it's apparent in much of my electronic music (will be up on SoundCloud at some point). I know simpler music is usually more successful, but I love tracks that are complex, aggressive, and colorful like Zedd's "Addicted to a Memory".
For me, I basically have bands like Iron Maiden, Kamelot, Tesseract, Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, and many others on repeat.
Who else here takes influence mostly from music outside of the genre you're producing? Can I hear?
