I asked this question before but took it down because of how poorly I wrote it. So I make bass music and after I make a drop I like I start to play a riff that I like. After I've got that and place the pattern at the beginning of my arranger as you'd expect the beginning sounds very empty and 'noobish' for an intro. So I think, maybe this sound should have some reverb. After I add reverb it sounds a lot better but still pretty noobish. I then add a crash and downlifter to the beginning. Sounds a lot better but still noobish. Then I add a random percussion hit , a low pass chord pad in the back , a little 2 note harmony that plays every 2 bars, and then finally it sounds full. Ok the thing is this happens on every song of course but not every intro sounds automatically good with these things layered with the riff. Sometimes I need to add less elements, sometimes I need a lot more. A song I heard a while ago by virtual riot and dodge and fuski called 'alien' starts with 2 elements and automatically my brain is like 'wow you can tell this was made by good producers'. My overall question is what makes songs sound full? Is it when the whole frequency spectrum is being covered? Is it when there is a riff , counter melody , baseline , and ambiance playing at once? Is it when you add reverb to your riff? Try this out for example. Write a riff with a saw wave or any wave just no effects , write a chord prog with a low passed sawwave , write a bass line under this, have no effects on any of this. Add an arp in the back. I don't know about you but even with these 4 elements playing at once , they don't seem like they could fit as an intro to a song how they CURRENTLY are. I'm sorry if my explanation has been all over the place but I've never seen or heard this talked about in any book, tutorial , class, etc. just what is it that separates a pros intro to a amateurs? By the way this isn't me asking how to write a good melody or chord progression. I
