So as title suggests I'd like to try out doing my mixdowns in mono. However, I consider panning and stereo field placement to be part of my arrangement process so I'm wondering how to go about this, cuz' from what I've gathered stereo effects will change the phase(?) of the signal. And so panning/imaging the individual tracks and then putting the master channel in mono will make the track sound different than it would if I had none of these effects and put the master in mono.
So; which approach is better (and why?) for mono mixdowns?
-
Putting the master in mono post-panning/stereo-fx
-
Removing stereo-fx on every track for the mono mixdown, then reapply them post-mixdown and adjust them to fit the mixdown
-
Something else
I'd really appreciate some clarity on this and I thought maybe someone here could lend me some. Thanks in advance =)
