So i've been DJing for a year and a half or so and i'm looking to get into production. Nothing major, just something to kind of put my name on and get myself out there. I really like "Bicep" and the music they make, and it's a similar style i would like to follow. If you are unaware, here are a few good tracks of theirs;
Bicep - "Just"
Bicep - "Vision of Love"
808 STATE - "IN YER FACE" (BICEP Remix)
Now I have been messing around with Ableton for quite a while now. I was making "mixes" in it before I got on decks and i've fairly familiar with how it all works. I've been trying this production thing for a long time very half heartedly and i've had enough now. I want to start making something proper, and actually learning. Can somebody please break down for me, if you have the time, the layers within a standard "Bicep" style track, and where I can best learn these various elements? I can't seem to get past the drum/percussion/hi hat etc phase. I get a nice beat going but making a "sound" as such i.e synths and basslines, i'm very uninformed. Anything I try and make sounds like a "Japanese arcade game" as my girlfriend put it... I know this isn't an overnight process and takes years of learning and practice to master, but consider this my day 1. I'm starting from scratch, and I, as well as any other rookies looking for beginners advice, need all your help! I know this sounds quite vague, but any advice/resources you have, just throw them in the comments if you have the time (:
Thanks a lot for all your help and input,
Much appreciated already!
