Hey guys, I'm trying to understand FM synthesis in Serum, specifically what octaves to set the modulator and carrier oscillators to and what effect this has on the harmonics of the sound I'm creating? Maybe also what is "increasing" when I turn the FM knob more? Right now I'm trying to create bass patches for Future House, if that helps.
I've searched through the subreddit and online quite a bit and am struggling to find info for Serum specifically, apart from videos which help with certain sounds but don't always explain the general process (why they choose the Serum octave settings they have and what effect this has on the sound). I've also watched videos on and read about FM Synthesis as a concept but still don't really grasp how to put it to use in Serum.
Would really appreciate any help you guys can provide, like the title said I'm offering gold to the most helpful answer.
