Maybe it's a sign of people engaging less with Soundcloud, but I've noticed that I get lots of plays on my tracks (usually around 1,000 in the first day, some tracks have ~30,000 plays), but very few followers (around 300 after almost a year of releasing music). It seems strange because my music often gets featured in blogs, mixtapes, etc. I've been headlining shows and getting offers to play around the country, but follower counts are still low.
It's just frustrating because it seems like people put a lot of importance on the number of Soundcloud/Facebook/etc. followers when booking shows or doing blog features. I've been committed so far to gaining followers naturally, but at this point it's getting irritating. Has anyone bought Soundcloud/Facebook/etc. followers, and if so - did it help at all? Did you regret doing it, or was it a positive step for you?
