Alright so to make this as simple as possible im going to start off by giving you the short of my issue
Im not finishing tracks
Yes guys, i know that its something that should take priority because nobody wants to be good at starting and never finishing. But i sit down at my chosen DAW for the day, write some chord progressions, design some rhythmic bass, throw on the drums, maybe an arp or a lead and then i get stuck. To try and remedy this situation ive been reading up on sound design, synthesis, music theory (i already know a lot from playing violin and viola), arrangement... but i just cant finish anything anymore. I honestly think im being too much of a perfectionist but its hard to judge yourself. I dont want to just keep adding elements and make some BS mix nobody wants to hear. But i dont know what area i need to improve on. I feel like my strengths and weaknesses are
Strengths : Musical ear, music theory, keyboard, DAW knowledge Weaknesses : Effects processing, arrangement ( particularly in breakdowns and bridges), vocals. In between: sound design
Has anybody out there kinda been stuck in the same rut? Its not that im having problems coming up with initial ideas...its just that i almost black out completely when it comes into transitioning from one part to the next. I get so caught up in the past 16 bars that i wont do much to the succeeding 16 bars. Then i have one long, uneventful mix. Devoid of any effects both samples and processing ( i admittedly have NO knowledge of distortion and its value in music production
I just dont want to get stuck in a rut and quit! I made a post a few weeks back and a kind feller on there suggested i start doing live performances. Well i got burned on both an American Audio VMS2 and a traktor kontrol s4 so after that my overall motivation is just shot. I love music too much to quit.
Help .....
Im dying guise
