Hi guys! Brand new to learning to produce, and I need your advice!
I have a few resources at my disposal (I have inherited a copy of Ableton 9, NI Massive and Sonic Charge Microtonic), with no prior music training. I need to know which things to prioritise.
From my limited research I hear that learning the DAW is priority #1. After that, I'm not sure. Next, should I: (a) practice music theory? (reading some books, doing exercises on the keyboard?) (b) learn synthesiser programming? if so, should I do it informally (playing with presets in Massive, following some youtube tutorials), or more formally (with books, maybe Syntorial) (c) learn how to use this micro tonic drum machine? I hear it's a pretty good way to synthesise your own drums and get some basic beats going. OR, should I go the sampled drums route instead?
Feel free to correct any ideas I have. I profess to know basically nothing and would love your input. Thanks!
