Typically I am working in ableton with their stock arpegiator or I am using the arpegiators that are built into my synths (Massive, Hybrid). I'm not sure if I just don't know how to use them well enough, but I often find myself doing a lot of stuff with these to get a desired effect, which I rarely achieve. I have done things like stack more than 1 instance of the same synth with different arpegiation parameters, or sometimes I will automate parameters.
So basically what I'm looking for:
Are there common practices when using arpegiators, or are they typically set it and forget it?
Built in synth arpegiators vs standalone plug-ins, preferences?
Any recommendations on arpegiation plug-ins?
I know that like anything else in this field, it boils down to whatever I can make sound good, but I want to know what works for you guys, thanks.
