I have been working on this song lately that at first I felt wasn't loud enough so I began to master for optimal loudness. After many hours I got to what I thought sounded alright. Then I compared the original un-mastered version to the new version and realized I had created all sorts of frequencies that step all over each other. I am now in the process of going back and instead of focusing on making my sound louder I am trying to make it much cleaner. Although the finished version seems like it will be significantly less powerful then my last few releases I think this is a wise choice. I feel a lot of producers go for such a loud sound that it ends up sounding muffled.
