If I'm going above 0 db pre-mastering, will the mastered song be louder than if I were to leave headroom?

I know that if you're going above 0 db and mastering it, the quality of of your sounds will be lower(correct me if I'm wrong), but will the song be louder? Or will it be the same loudness cause it gets compressed and only the sounds will lose quality?

TL;DR: Will my song be louder & lose quality OR will it be the same loudness & lose quality?
