I was always super afraid of messing with the sub bass. I'd open up Serum, just the sub, direct out. Usually down an octave or two also. Mostly, my sub bass has just been to add kinda.."weight" to the chords, cause most systems don't even reproduce it that well (headphones, Bluetooth speakers).
I threw a compressor on a sub bass, sine, and took the threshold down a little bit. All of the sudden, the sub bass was monstrous. Had such a punch to it and so much body.
Why is this? Isn't a sub sine just literally only the fundamental? Why does it sound so different with the compressor? Shouldn't the waveform be like..I'm not sure. Why is this?
