EQ'ing an 808 / sub

Hey,

So I'm kind of confused about the saturation of the upper harmonics and how to EQ them.

So I want to EQ the sub with a LPF @ 150hz.

But I also want the upper harmonics in there to make the 808 shine.. What gives? Putting another EQ before or after that would be pointless, because everything above 150hz is getting cut off.

Do you just need a parallel track or something? That doesn't seem right though.. just 1 track with your 808 is all you need. I don't know what i'm missing.
