I want to start making some EDM style trap, but I'm having a rough go on where to start. I come from a trance background and the transition has been difficult.
I've watched the Beat school video on how to make a perfectly pitched 808 using Sytrus (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7qXf-RbaN8) and it's great and all, but it sounds too much like authentic southern trap to me. It doesn't have that "oomph" that EDM bastardized trap has.
So to those of you who produce it, do you find that there are certain samples which work really well on their own? Or do you find more success in layering non-808 kicks with a low sine tail?
