Hi y'all. A lot of you have probably already seen me, but in case you missed it, I had been teaching Music Theory and composition at the high school level for fifteen years before I left my last job. Teaching young people music theory has always been my favorite thing to teach, because I think understanding it really opens up whole new worlds of enjoying and creating music that were closed off before. As a musician, I deeply love playing and performing, but honestly the joy of that has always been second to the joy of seeing other young musicians grow and gradually spread their wings.
Anyway, three years ago I left that job to pursue podcasting full time, but I still really miss sharing music theory with aspiring musicians. To make up for that, I'm posting occasional theory lessons on the subreddit r/jbtMusicTheory. Each of my lessons is based in composition and creation of new music, because I firmly believe that the best way to internalize theory concepts is to utilize them in the creation of new music. I just posted a new one--Lesson #7: Writing Two Part Harmonies--and I hope if anyone is interested they'll go check it out.
Thanks!
