A fair few questions in this sub are about making a particular genre, the sounds in a particular genre, the instruments used in a particular genre or even the sample packs used in a particular genre. This leads me to the conclusion that a large percentage of users here sit down and say to themselves "Imma make some Trap" .. and do so.
To be honest I've always been pretty shit at my attempts to create specific genres. For the life of me (and for better or worse) I just can't commit to all the conventions/sounds/arrangements to make a track that is definitively a specific genre.
So the question is how often do you know or decide specifically what genre you're making and how much work to the agreed conventions of that genre?
Alternatively, how often do you sit down and start piecing sounds together and see what happens?!
