How are artists able to get a complete block of sound in their songs without terrible clipping - see http://i.imgur.com/vFJZGgh.png (Boombox Cartel on top, Porter Robinson on the bottom)
At first, I tried just pushing the limiter and things quickly became distorted despite not being close to the volume of my reference tracks. Then I tried to compress my elements more before pushing the master, and I still am quite a few decibels from the reference track volume.
My instruments aren't that wild in transients either - I literally have some detuned saws, a sub, and drums. Any tips?
Also yes I know the sacrifice of dynamics, etc. It still boggles my mind how the reference tracks were even able to get to that level of loudness.
