Without this getting too long winded and repetitive, as the 8 bar loop thing has been beaten to death here and elsewhere on other forums, I'm trying to figure out why this stresses me so much. The 8 bar loop is when I'm most creative. Got my chord progression going, feeling the groove, just vibing out and having a good time. Pretty much no pressure. Then I realize this needs to be an actual song and all hell breaks loose. I get stifled and suddenly I feel like what I'm doing is wrong, it no longer feels like that free flowing creativity in 8 bar loop mode.
It's not that I don't know how song structure works. I've studied tracks, watched numerous tutorials, read tons of forum posts and books on all this stuff. I probably just haven't completed enough songs to know what I want. I probably also get way more critical when it comes to writing an actual track. Something about having a finished song vs 8 bar loop makes me anxious. I've been pushing past it, but to be honest I sat down today and had fun just writing another 8 bar loop and thought to myself, fuck why can't making songs be this fun?
