My question boils down to this, is there anyone here who has experienced prolonged/permanent tinnitus and is still going? Has it been sustainable long term, or forced you to quit?
Longer explanation: I've been producing for ~4 years with lots of improvement but no published tracks or performances or anything. Not a DJ, never been in a band. I went to a show some months back that was particularly loud and my ears haven't really stopped ringing since.
I've been to a doc and done a good bit of research. I feel like I have a better how to protect myself better from here on out, and currently the ringing is not intrusive or bothersome, not ALWAYS noticeable, but definitely there. I cut out smoking and alcohol, stayed away from producing for a few weeks but finally the itch just got to me. I did buy a db meter and I'm paying way more attention to volume levels, taking breaks, etc.
It's especially frustrating because so many of my friends are older and more involved than music than I, but every one of them I've asked said their ears are basically fine. On top of that, I've been pretty responsible with wearing ear plugs to shows the past few years, because I knew what the stakes were, but I forgot them that once and now here I am.
Seeing as I've sunk lots of time into this without any success yet it seems like a very tough choice to cut my losses completely or just say fuck it. I'm just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and what their outcome was. Thanks.
